Kaitlyn's Bio

Kaitlyn Schammel is an attorney in the HR & Employment Practice Group at FMJ.  She focuses on advising businesses and individuals on human resource and employment issues.  Kaitlyn helps with a variety of matters, including employment procedures and policies, employment training, discrimination and harassment prevention, termination and hiring procedures, employee benefits, investigations, post-employment restrictive covenants, FMLA and other leaves of absence, confidentiality and related restrictions, compliance with employment laws, and more.

Even before law school, Kaitlyn knew she wanted to cultivate a career in employment law.  She graduated from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities with a BSB in Human Resources and Industrial Relations and a minor in Business Law.  Kaitlyn also built on her HR training and knowledge by gaining an SHRM-CP in January 2023, and she has remained active and involved with the Twin Cities chapter of SHRM.

Prior to starting her law career with FMJ, Kaitlyn served as a legal intern with the National Labor Relations Board.  She also had law clerk positions (both in-house and with a civil practice law firm) working in the areas of employment law and workers’ compensation.  During her final year of law school, Kaitlyn received a certification from the Minnesota Justice Foundation for her public service throughout school, and she was recognized by the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Section for Excellence in Labor Law.  Kaitlyn brings her drive and dedication to all of her client service and employment law work here at FMJ.

Kaitlyn is originally from Austin, Minnesota (Spamtown, USA), and she loves Minnesota sports, especially cheering for the Gophers and Twins.  Kaitlyn also enjoys trying new Twin Cities coffee shops and playing tennis and pickleball.
