Cortney Buesgens practices in the General Corporate & Business, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Real Estate Practice Groups at FMJ. Cortney focuses on working with business owners and stakeholders to guide them through a wide range of business law matters, including mergers and acquisitions, contract drafting, entity formation, and corporate governance. Cortney also helps individuals and businesses in the purchase, sale, and leasing of real estate.
Growing up in a small family business taught Cortney the value of hard work and dedication to achieving a common goal. Cortney’s background has given her first-hand experience with the unique challenges that business owners face, and this is reflected in the way she advises her clients. Cortney approaches each transaction with an attention to detail, a problem-solving mindset, and an unwavering dedication to client service.
Before joining FMJ, Cortney acquired a wide range of transactional experience at both small and mid-sized business law firms in the Twin Cities. Cortney graduated summa cum laude from the University of St. Thomas School of Law, where she was a member of the Nonprofit Organizations Clinic. Before law school, Cortney graduated from the Carlson School of Management with a B.S. in Accounting and minor in Business Law, receiving summa cum laude honors with high distinction.
Cortney is an active supporter of animal rescue and no-kill shelters. She currently volunteers at The Bond Between, a nonprofit organization that rescues dogs and cats in the Twin Cities.

Cortney was born and raised in Minnesota and grew up in the southwest metro area. Outside of the office, Cortney enjoys spending time on the lake, traveling, cooking, and spending quality time with her partner, Drew, her energetic golden retriever, Penny, and her friendly cat, Bernard.
