Ben Werner practices in the Aviation, Mergers and Acquisitions, and General Corporate Practice Groups at FMJ.
Ben advises businesses and their owners on the full range of corporate matters, from entity formation and governance to commercial contracts and ongoing operational questions. In M&A transactions, he represents both buyers and sellers, helping to structure deals, manage due diligence, negotiate purchase agreements, and guide each transaction to closing.
Ben’s aviation work spans the industry. He works with businesses, aircraft owners and operators, charter companies, lessors and lessees, and airlines on the acquisition, sale, leasing, tax considerations, and FAA and other regulatory requirements, so they can make their business more efficient.
Before joining FMJ as an attorney, Ben spent nearly two years as a law clerk at the firm, where he worked alongside attorneys on aviation and other transactional related matters. That experience gave him a strong foundation in the firm’s practice and a head start in serving its clients. Ben’s passion for aviation reaches beyond the office. He is currently training to earn his private pilot certificate, which gives him a firsthand perspective on the operational realities his aviation clients face every day.
Ben earned his J.D. from the University of St. Thomas School of Law and a B.A. in Business Law and Compliance from the University of St. Thomas.
“Good legal advice starts with getting to know the client and their business, not just understanding what the client needs and moving on. I take time to learn about each client and what they are trying to accomplish. Translating complex issues into practical, plain-language guidance is essential, and clients can count on me to keep them informed at every stage and to anticipate issues before they slow a deal down. Strong communication with clients is a major key to success.”
Ben enjoys working with his business and aviation clients, especially where aviation and business overlap. His interest in aviation reaches well beyond his practice. He is currently training to earn his private pilot certificate, so he has a better understanding of the aviation industry. When he’s not in the office or flying, Ben enjoys being active and spending time outdoors, whether he’s at the gym, out on the lake, or working on his golf game. He values time with family and friends and is always on the lookout for a new restaurant to try in the Twin Cities.
