Elaine's Bio

Elaine Mikel-Mulder is an associate attorney in the Trusts & Estates Practice Group at FMJ Law. Elaine focuses her practice on estate planning, business succession planning, trust administration, probate and estate administration, and advising closely held and family-owned businesses. Elaine works with individuals, families, entrepreneurs, and business owners to create practical legal strategies that protect assets, preserve wealth, and support long-term business and family goals.

Elaine advises clients on a wide range of estate planning matters, including wills, revocable trusts, irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, wealth transfer planning, and estate and gift tax strategies. She also assists personal representatives, trustees, and families with probate proceedings and trust and estate administration. Her experience includes helping clients navigate complex family, business, and succession planning issues with a thoughtful and solutions-oriented approach.

In addition to her trusts and estates practice, Elaine has substantial experience advising closely held businesses and financial institutions on corporate and commercial matters. Her background includes secured transactions, corporate governance, business reorganizations, buy-sell agreements, mergers and acquisitions, and general business counseling. She has represented banks and lenders supporting small businesses and has guided companies through transactions ranging from routine operational matters to sophisticated business deals.

Elaine’s experience in both business law and estate planning allows her to provide integrated legal counsel to business owners, executives, and families planning for the future. She helps clients evaluate the long-term legal, financial, and operational impact of important decisions, including ownership transitions, succession planning, and legacy planning.

Before entering private practice, Elaine gained valuable litigation and courtroom experience through clerkships in both civil and criminal court, giving her insight into the disputes and risks that can arise in business, probate, and estate matters. She is committed to building strong client relationships and delivering practical, responsive legal guidance tailored to each client’s unique objectives.

Elaine enjoys travel and diving deep into other cultural practices and traditions. She has studied at Oxford, taught fine arts in Italy, taught English in Costa Rica, worked in orphanages in Israel and Jordan, and more. Elaine enjoys fitness activities and being outdoors, especially when it involves chasing her kids or bonfires with the family. When she has time to herself, Elaine spends time with her friends, works out, reads philosophy, or enjoys a good beer or wine.
