HR & Employment Law Training

Sensibly Proactive.
Strategically Reactive.

HR & Employment Law Training

Our HR and Employment Advising Attorneys are available to provide tailored, specialized training programs to help your leaders and teams learn and grow.  In addition, our training programs will help your organization respond to legal changes and developments, implement new policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with local and national HR and employment laws and regulations.

FMJ’s Attorneys are engaging speakers and presenters, and they provide an enjoyable, interactive experience for attendees.  Our programs work particularly well with groups of 10 to 20 people, but we can tailor programming to fit your specific needs.

Available Programs

Navigating Leave and Accommodations

There have been a number of changes and developments in Family and Medical Leave requirements and accommodations, particularly in Minnesota.  This program will explain federal and state laws, address requirements for compliance, and discuss strategies for dealing with leaves, return to work, and accommodations.

Harassment, Discrimination, and Retaliation Prevention

Training, awareness, and prevention can be the best defense against harassment, discrimination, and retaliation issues.  Our Attorneys address the current legal state in these areas and discuss strategies to increase awareness, create a safe space for employees, and encourage reporting and prevention.

Best Practices in Administering and Documenting Employee Discipline and Discharge

Discipline, employee relations issues, and discharge can be difficult to handle well without sound policies in place.  Our Attorneys will educate managers and HR professionals to document and handle these types of issues correctly and strategically in order to help keep things on track, minimize risk, and avoid litigation.

Independent Contractor v. Employee Classification, Including New Federal Standards

The U.S. Department of Labor recently issued new independent contractor rules and standards.  Our Attorneys can help your team understand the new rules and tests, analyze employment relationships for your organization, and balance the federal laws and definitions with those at the state level.  The independent contractor v. employee analysis is complicated, and it can have significant repercussions if not done correctly.  So, let our team help!

Implementing the New HR and Employment Laws in Minnesota

There have been numerous new employment law changes in Minnesota.  Over the last year, we have seen a ban on non-competes, legalized cannabis, paid sick and safe time, new pregnancy accommodation rules, new interview and written policy requirements, and more.  And Minnesota’s new Family and Medical Leave Program is right around the corner.  Our Attorneys will easily explain the laws and changes, address questions your team may have, and discuss strategies for compliance, policy and procedural changes, and implementation of any changes your organization may need to make.

If there are specific topics or programs you do not see here, please reach out. We can work with your team to design the programming and training that you need.
