Nate Snyder – From the Gridiron to Outside General Counsel

While Nate Snyder is new to FMJ – having joined the firm in April 2022 – he has spent the last eight years becoming a trusted advisor to sports, entertainment, and media clients by learning their industries, building relationships, being responsive, and efficiently providing high-level, specialized legal services. In recognition, Nate was recently elected to serve as the Chair of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Sports, Art, and Entertainment Law Section.

Nate’s practice has seen him work with Minnesota sports, entertainment, and media law clients, as well as national clients, on their corporate governance, commercial transactions, employment and ownership equity, and intellectual property matters. These clients have included executives from major sports organizations and media companies, clothing, entertainment, music, and video production companies, notable media and social media personalities, and numerous athletes, artists, musicians, and creatives.

As a former college football player with a passion for all things sports, music, and entertainment, Nate has never shied away from hard work or playing on big stages and under bright lights. FMJ has provided him with an ideal opportunity to grow his practice while supporting FMJ’s clients in these industries, including affording him the ability to work with a major sports organization client of the firm.

Since joining FMJ, Nate has worked closely with Jim Seifert and Rob Fafinski on a variety of sports, entertainment, and media matters, including venue, performer, media, and technology agreements, trademark and intellectual property registrations, assignments, and licenses, and name, image, and likeness (NIL) agreements involving student athletes, to name a few. This work has continued to build on Nate’s expertise and FMJ’s reputation for providing big-firm knowledge and experience in a more intimate, small-firm customer service model, while expanding the ways FMJ can serve its clients.

“FMJ’s reputation and expertise in the area college sports has seen explosive growth over the past year as the firm now represents the largest college sports conference in the United States.  Nate’s addition to the firm shows FMJ’s commitment to this practice area far into the future.”

Nate is also active and connected in the Twin Cities sports and entertainment law community. In his new capacity as Chair of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Sports, Art, and Entertainment Law Section, Nate will work with the Section’s executive council to plan events and CLEs, serve as liaison to local law schools and students, and work with the Minnesota State Bar Association on relevant sports, art, and entertainment legislature. Prior to being elected Chair, Nate had been involved with the Section for nearly a decade, holding other offices and serving on the Section’s executive council. Additionally, Nate is a thought leader in this arena, having been asked to speak on sports and entertainment law panels, discuss NIL regulation by Twin Cities media, and presenting CLEs on business, corporate, and intellectual property matters.

Nate continues to establish himself and FMJ as known and respected leaders in sports, entertainment, and media law, both in Minnesota and nationally, by continuing to practice the FMJ way.
