John Ella, Natolie Hochhausen, and Kaitlyn Schammel presented at the TCSHRM (Twin Cities Society for HR Management) annual Legal Summit this morning at the Eagan Community Center. There were 130 HR professionals signed up for the event. Natolie’s presentation, “Leave Law Updates – Learning to Love the Leave Laws,” focused on Earned Sick and Safe Time and the Paid Leave Law that goes into effect in 2026. Kaitlyn’s presentation, “Legislative Potpourri – Minnesota’s Evolving Employment Laws and Federal Updates,” covered Minnesota’s 2023-24 legislative updates to employment laws and two of the major federal updates (EEOC’s Pregnant Workers’ Fairness Act final rule and the FTC Ban on Non-Competes). John’s presentation, “New Salary Requirements for Exempt Employees – An Hour (or so) on Federal and State Wage and Hour Law,” examined differences in federal and state wage and hour law, as well as updates to federal and state laws relating to overtime exemptions and independent contractors.
