# Congratulations to Our Attorneys of the Year!

Several FMJ attorneys were recently recognized by Minnesota Lawyer Magazine as Attorneys of the Year for 2022.  [Donald Chance Mark, Jr.](https://www.fmjlaw.com/professional/donald-chance-mark-jr/), [David Runck](https://www.fmjlaw.com/professional/david-e-runck/), and Sharon Van Dyck (former FMJ attorney) were named as Attorneys of the Year for their contributions and leadership of the FMJ team that worked on the case of *McGuire v. Bowlin*. 

In *McGuire*, a high school basketball coach lost his coaching job after a series of false accusations by a disgruntled parent.  FMJ represented the coach throughout the course of this lengthy litigation, which included complicated defamation, procedural and bankruptcy issues.  Ultimately, the team secured a settlement in favor of the coach, but the larger victory was in helping to establish limits when sports parents overstep their zeal and cause legal damage to coaches, who now have more defined protections from such conduct.
